Every gymnast is unique. The most important exercises that every gymnast should do are the exercises that address that specific gymnast’s weaknesses.
If I had to narrow it down, every gymnast should ask a physical therapist for these 3 things:
1. A core exercise that asks the gymnast to maintain spine stability while moving shoulders and hips through their full range of motion.
2. An exercise that improves a gymnast’s ability to absorb forces when they land. It should include specific instructions on foot strength, leg alignment, and control.
3. A head-to-toe strength and flexibility examination to help establish where the gymnast’s weaknesses are.
