Dr. Bauman opens a new concussion and sports medicine clinic

Gymnastics Medicine MD,  Dr. Shannon Bauman, is opening a new medical practice on Jan 4th, 2022 in the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex arena in West Des Moines, IA. A former gymnast herself, Dr. Bauman competed  level 10 J.O. training in MN/Region 4. Unfortunately, her own college gymnastics dreams were dashed by a career ending back injury. Nevertheless, Dr. Bauman was a multi-sport athlete, competing in college tennis and soccer at St. Norbert College, Wisconsin. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and a Bachelor’s in Nursing before completing Medical School (MD) at McMaster University. Dr Bauman’s Family Medicine Residency was at Queen’s University before returning to McMaster University for her Sports Medicine Fellowship. Dr Bauman also has a Diploma in Sports Medicine (CASEM).

Dr Bauman has over 15 years experience as a Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician, working as Team Physician for Team Canada Women’s Lacrosse at World Cups, aswel as Team Physician for the Toronto Rock (NLL), Hamilton Nationals (MLL), Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL), Vancouver Olympics Team Physician 2010 (sledge Hockey), Newcastle Knights (NRL), Team Ontario and Team Canada Gymnastics.

Dr Bauman is the Medical Director and creator of Concussion North (Canada), an MD-led interdisciplinary sports concussion center, since 2014. She has multiple research publications and has presented on Sports Related Concussions and Sex Differences in Concussion (Croatia, Berlin, Paris, USA and Canada). Dr. Bauman also co-authored Concussion in Sport Guidelines (Gymnastics Canada Return-to-Play).
